![]() ![]() That's one of those cases like the Metal Gear Solid series where I think the English voices are unquestionably superior. if there's one game where even my possible pro-undub stance completely fades away, it's Final Fantasy XII. Hell, I'd like the chance to try it that way. I like the voice acting in Persona 3 (well, for the most part), but with the game being so Japanese in theme, I can completely understand why somebody would want to play through the game with Japanese voices. If I own the game, and then also want to get a version where fans have put back in the Japanese voices, that should be my right. If "undubs" are being used as an excuse for piracy, then that's wrong, and there's no other way to look at if. Or, you know, people prefer the original Japanese voices, and that's their right. I can't think offhand of a recent Atlus dub that I've thought was bad, but I know I take issues with the voices you guys use sometimes, and you're one of the companies putting out the most effort in this regard. I understand the position you're coming from, but the fact of the matter is, even when the best attempt possible has been made, sometimes the dubs that we get just plain suck. I understand the legality of this whole part of the underbelly of the Internets is questionable at best but hopefully I can stay out of trouble. Which ones have you tried? How does the quality compare next to the official releases? Which other games do you think could use an undubbing? And so on. So I guess it's sort of a compromise between solid voice acting versus an imo, better overall package.Īll in all I'm interested in hearing if any of you have had experiences with these undubs. Now Abyss and P3 actually have pretty good voice acting, not on the level of FFXII but certainly much better than most. Unfortunately, it seems desu desu voices for SO3 aren't much of an improvement:Īlso, it seems the undubbed version of Xenosaga III reinstates the blood and uncensored scenes removed in the US version of the game. Everytime one of the ninja chicks spouts a line my soul dies a little bit. I believe work has started on undubbing the FES version of the game for those interested.Īnd third, games like Star Ocean 3 simply have ear-bleedingly atrocious voice acting. Call it immersion or whatever, but I just think it feels more in line with the world depicted. Heck they even kept the honorifics in the english version. ![]() Second, in a game like Persona 3, which is centered around life in a japanese school, I think it makes the most sense for the characters to be speaking in japanese. Here's an example of the undubbed version, athough unfortunately I couldn't find any videos of the alleged voiced skits: This seemingly minor thing makes all the difference in the world to me and puts it above the english language version if even by just a bit. This means no more annoying mute skits to wade through. There are three of these, mostly.įirst, it seems the undubbed version of Tales of Abyss actually adds the original voice acting to the skits. So, why is it that I think it's not such a bad idea after all? Because there are instances where I feel that doing something like this is actually helpful for the game. It's about as disparaging as Samanosuke/Jubei speaking english in the Onimusha series. It kinda makes no sense for them to be speaking japanese in the first place. The majority of these game worlds take place in a decidedly western setting. The Xenosaga series, if nothing else, had above average voice acting and I think I remember reading JonnyRam's (or was it JohnTV's?) group managed Rogue Galaxy's localization, so you know that's quality.īut the thing that stands out the most to me. Now, I haven't played near half of those titles so I can't well comment on the quality of their localizations but, come on, Final Fantasy XII? Valkyrie Profile 2? DDS? Those games had some of the BEST localizations last gen. It's a shame they seem to limit themselves to only JRPGs, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. It seems these guys keep themselves busy. Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustraįinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring Of Fates Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse We are not a download site with these games available for download, so don't go asking where to find them. The following below is a list of known public undub games to my knowledge. ![]()
